1. PURPOSE: To describe the minimal requirements for
computer hardware and software needed for analysis of PulseNet PFGE gels.
2. SCOPE: This procedure applies to all PulseNet
participating laboratories analyzing PFGE gels.
3. DEFINITIONS/TERMS:
a. PFGE: Pulsed-field Gel Electrophoresis
b. BioNumerics: Gel analysis software used by
PulseNet, developed by Applied Maths, Belgium
c. CDC: Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention
4. RESPONSIBILITIES/PROCEDURE:
a. Participating laboratories must use
the following software and hardware
b. BioNumerics Software v3.0, v3.5,
v4.01, or v5.0
c. CDC PulseNetmasterscripts
d. Personal computer equipped with an
Intel Pentium CPU or better, 256 MB RAM or more, 65 Kcolor graphics or better
and Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or higher
e. Keyboard, mouse, CD-ROM
f.
High resolution screen
1024x768 or higher; true color
g. Large screen recommended (17" or more)
